The energy efficiency project at Valtra’s tractor factory improved the factory’s energy efficiency and the production workers’ conditions.

As part of the energy overhaul, the ventilation unit fans and the heat radiators in the assembly plant and spare parts centre were updated, along with the actuators. New air ducts were also built to improve the air distribution. Energy use was reduced with the help of a recirculated air and heat recovery solution and demand control.

Also, the ventilation controls in the driving transmission hall were improved. According to LeaseGreen’s predictions, the new solutions will reduce heat energy use by about 1000 MWh per year. About 500 MWh of electricity will be saved and CO2 emissions will be reduced by almost 300 tonnes.

Valtra’s tractor factory is located in Suolahti. The energy efficiency project includes the assembly plant, power transmission plant and spare parts centre, which cover a combined area of 42 000 m2, or over 4 hectares. Roughly 850 employees work in the factory area on a daily basis and every year they produce about 8500 Valtra tractors that are exported to different parts of the world.

Valtra tractors’ roots go back to Valtion Metallitehtaat Group, which began tractor production under the Valmet name in 1951. Valtra is now part of the American AGCO Group and is one of Central Finland’s biggest industrial employers.
