In the future, air-to-water heat pumps will provide most of the heat needed for a property. However, district heating is still used alongside heat pumps for heating water and in the coldest weather. The energy renovation reduced the amount of district heating required by 76% and made Kunnonpaika almost entirely energy self-sufficient in heating.
