Tomi Mäkipelto and Juho Rönni are the Young Growth Entrepreneurs of the year 2017 in Finland. The winners were announced in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 gala in Helsinki late last Friday. According to the jury, LeaseGreen’s fresh business idea, unique service solution and fast growth made strong impression to the judges. Mäkipelto and Rönni were honored with the Audience’s Favourite award as well.
“It was an great moment of recognition for us, everyone in our team”, says Mäkipelto. “I would like to thank our customers and supporters, all of you which have believed in us.”
“We have made a good start, but there’s a long journey ahead of us”, says Juho Rönni. “We are building an international company which has strong roots in Finland. We have expanded our business operations to Sweden and we are already exploring next new markets.”

LeaseGreen Group is a fast-growing cleantech company specialising in the energy use and smart building solutions of large properties – energy efficiency as a service, with more comfort to the tenants and 24/7 monitoring of building conditions for the owners. In most cases, the finance for investments is included in the monthly fee.
The revenue of LeaseGreen has been growing quickly. In 2017 the revenue will be approximately 25 million EUR while it was 14,9 million EUR in 2016. The company has 50 employees, most of them highly educated and experienced project leaders and engineers.
Tomi Mäkipelto and Juho Rönni founded LeaseGreen in 2013. Mäkipelto is 35 years old and his previous career includes successful spells at large Finnish corporations Caverion Plc and YIT, managing business development and energy issues. Rönni has previously worked as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs in London, and supervised financial and investment issues for Finnish mining company Talvivaara.
Entrepreneur Of The Year is the world’s most prestigious business award for entrepreneurs.
According to the organizer EY, the award celebrates those who are building and leading successful, growing and dynamic businesses, recognizing them through regional, national and global awards programs in more than 145 cities in more than 60 countries.
The national Entrepreneur of the Year Finland 2017 title was awarded this year to Vesa Korhonen, CEO of renewable energy company Nocart. He will be Finland’s delegate in the next world championships of entrepreneurs which will be organized in June 2018 in Monte Carlo.
